Transformers Iacon Literature Fest Day 3: AU

 So since I can’t draw worth a whit, I figured I’d recommend fics for each category that I really like. Some of these fics fit in multiple categories, so I just picked what I thought worked best.

A caveat - I tried to just pick fics that are completed. While I have a lot of excellent fics in my subscriptions on AO3, I figured I’d post ones that are done, for that instant gratification rush. :)

*looks confused* Unless you’re writing something that’s 100% canon-compliant, isn’t every fanfic an AU? Well, never mind that! I’ve selected two stories that are set in AUs that I found particularly intriguing.

The Revolutionary by astolat.

“I never went down,” Ratchet said. 

Astolat sort of burst onto the TF fic scene a little while ago, but she’s been writing excellent fics in a variety of fandoms for a long time. This particular fic really grabbed me. It’s lengthy, but it’s a great look at Megatron’s motivations, and what might sidetrack him from his goal of defeating the Autobots… And it’s told from Ratchet’s point of view. The deep examination of Megatron’s character are fantastic just by themselves, but seeing it through Ratchet’s eye adds an extra layer of awesome.

Start reading it for the interactions between the characters, stay for the examination of the ethical complexity of a guerrilla war, finish it to see how the Autobots reconcile their priorities. Contains some scenes of plug-and-play interfacing.

In Search of a Cause by dragonofdespair.

In which Prowl and Bluestreak save the galaxy from Decepticons. You’d think the galaxy would be grateful, but instead Nova Corps keeps trying to arrest them for war crimes. Go figure.

OR: A buddy-comedy version of Indiana Jones IN SPAAACE! but with two giant alien robot war criminals instead of a gainfully employed archaeologist-looter. Because Decepticons are totally the same as Nazis and Bluestreak is still a morality pet.

This is a crossover between Guardians of the Galaxy and Transformers, starring Prowl and Bluestreak. I loved this fic. Prowl and Bluestreak, roaming the galaxy together, hunting a rogue Decepticon - How did I not know this is what I needed in my life? I especially liked the interactions between Prowl and Blue. (I totally think of Bluestreak as a BAMF.)

The author apologized for dropping it for a while and not finishing it the way they originally intended, but the ending that was written just feels perfect. Do I wish there was more? Yes, but I’m content with how it was wrapped up.
