Transformers Iacon Literature Fest Day 2: Angst

 So since I can’t draw worth a whit, I figured I’d recommend fics for each category that I really like. Some of these fics fit in multiple categories, so I just picked what I thought worked best.

A caveat - I tried to just pick fics that are completed. While I have a lot of excellent fics in my subscriptions on AO3, I figured I’d post ones that are done, for that instant gratification rush. :)

Angst. I honestly don’t have a lot of angsty stories bookmarked. They aren’t my favourite fics, since I prefer to read more upbeat things… Or stories that start out sad and get happy at the end.

That being said, I have two recommendations for this category: one short and one very long.

You Go First by Biofuel.

At the end of it all, Sunstreaker is the last to watch the lights go out.

If the fuel ever ran out, I could see this story coming to pass. (Although @tfwiki just did a post on this yesterday - looks like it’s mostly fanon!) Mechanical beings would just eventually… shut down. If your car has ever run out of gas, you know what it sounds like. :(

These Games We Play by Peacewish.

For the first time in vorns, Soundwave plays a card game and wins a most unusual prize. But according to Jazz, that’s when the real game began. Now master and slave must match wits in a game that will push them both to the breaking point and beyond.

This story isn’t really angsty, but it is dark. The Autobots lost the war, and have become slaves to the Decepticons. There’s a long game to be played, and Jazz as a character lends himself to that very well. There are dark themes in this story, but the way it resolves is beautiful and full of hope. Definitely worth the time investment. (Contains plug-n-play/tactile interfacing.)
