Transformers Iacon Literature Fest Day 5: One-shot

 So since I can’t draw worth a whit, I figured I’d recommend fics for each category that I really like. Some of these fics fit in multiple categories, so I just picked what I thought worked best.

A caveat - I tried to just pick fics that are completed. While I have a lot of excellent fics in my subscriptions on AO3, I figured I’d post ones that are done, for that instant gratification rush. :)

Aaah, one-shots. Perfect for the commitment-shy.

But when I was going through my bookmarks, I realized I had precious few one-shots that weren’t simply smut (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) or were still unfinished. And most of the ones I do have have already been tagged for different days for this event. But I still found two for recommendations today.

Champion by astolat.

If it was anybody’s fault, it was that loser Starscream. 

Yup, another astolat fic! This one… I love this one. It’s all about how Rumble and Frenzy start mixing Megatron’s poetry to music with the help of a few Autobots, then accidentally start an underground dance club, complete with a bar and lights, and then… When Optimus and Megatron find out what’s been going on, it’s hilarious and heart-breaking all at the same time. 

Bonus, the soundtrack posted at the end of the story had a song in it (with the same title as the story) that really grabbed me. I’ve got a song fic of my own planned for it in my The Renegade and the Hound AU… Hope to get to it eventually!

Playing the Long Odds by @bibliotecaria-d.

A.k.a. the Curious Incident of Too Many Prowls. Starscream will never look at Prowl the same, but neither will Smokescreen. 

I love this story in so many ways. First, the author mades use of the fact that Prowl, Bluestreak and Smokescreen were basically just recolours of each other… So could they pass as each other to fool the Decepticons? Then, there’s Prowl’s shyness, and his cringe-worthy lack of social awareness or relationship skills. Finally, there’s the adorableness of Smokescreen finally letting Prowl into his orbit and learning how to like him… And then more. Love it. <3 

Note: The last chapter is mostly just sex, and the author notes that if you want to stop at chapter 6 for a nice fluffy, sex-free ending, that works too. (But hey - the sex is pretty awesome!)
